Manual valves are an essential component in a multitude of industrial and domestic applications. From regulating fluid flow on industrial production lines to controlling the water supply in a family setting, these valves offer a simple, cost-effective and reliable solution to a range of fluid control needs.
Definition
Manual valves are mechanical devices that enable the control of fluid flow through human operation. They are widely used in a number of industrial, agricultural, municipal engineering and domestic applications. The primary function of a manual valve is to open, close or adjust the fluid channel in order to control or switch the direction of fluid flow, whether liquid, gas or mixed media.
Manual valves are typically operated by turning handles, wrenches or gearboxes, using the principle of mechanical transmission to control the opening and closing parts in the valve (such as gates, balls or butterfly plates) to change the channel state. The structure is relatively simple, with low maintenance costs, making it a cost-effective fluid control programme.
Types of Manual Valves
In terms of different uses:
Cut-off valve: It is a device used to connect or cut off the medium in a pipeline. The most commonly used cut-off valves are gate valves, globe valves, plug valves, ball valves, butterfly valves and diaphragm valves.
Gate Valve: The gate valve is used in a perpendicular position to the fluid flow direction in order to control the switching state. This product is suitable for use in either a fully open or fully closed position, but is not designed for regulating flow. This valve offers low fluid resistance and high sealing, making it ideal for use in large-diameter, high-pressure pipelines.
Globe valve: The globe valve is a type of valve that is used in a variety of settings. The valve plate can be lifted and lowered along the valve seat axis, to control the flow or switching status. This product offers excellent regulating performance and is suitable for use in medium and high-pressure systems. The product offers excellent sealing performance and good wear resistance.
Plug valve: The plug valve is designed to control the opening and closing of the fluid passage through the rotation of the plug body. The product boasts a simple structure, making it ideal for use in small and medium-diameter piping systems. The product offers rapid operation and excellent sealing performance.
Ball valve: The ball valve is operated by rotating the ball body through 90°to control the flow of fluid or cut off. This product is lightweight and offers excellent sealing performance, making it ideal for high-frequency switching operations. The fluid resistance is minimal, enabling swift opening and closing. It is suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature conditions.
Butterfly valve: The butterfly valve is operated by rotating the butterfly plate, which allows for regulation or cutting off of the fluid, so it is ideal for large-diameter, low-pressure applications. Its simple structure, lightweight design and low cost make it an excellent choice for regulating flow.
Check valve:The check valve, also known as a one-way valve, is a device that prevents backflow of media. It relies on the media flow and pressure difference to achieve automatic opening and closing. This product is primarily used for one-way fluid control. The protection of pipelines and equipment is essential for extending the lifespan of the system. There is a wide range of check valves available on the market. Taloar’s product range includes dual plate check valves, swing check valves, silent check valves and ball non-return check valves.
Safety valve: Its purpose is to prevent the medium pressure in the pipeline or device from exceeding the specified value, thereby ensuring the safety of the system.
Regulating valve: This kind of valve is utilized to regulate fluid flow, pressure, temperature and other parameters of the equipment by modifying the valve opening to adjust the fluid flow or pressure. Regulating valves are typically employed in systems that necessitate precise flow control or dynamic fluid adjustment. They can be categorized as follows: balance regulating valves, auto-flow balance valves , pressure independent control valves, motorized control valves, and so on. (Take Taloar’s products as an example.)
Flow divider valve: This includes a variety of distribution valves and traps, etc., for the distribution, separation or mixing of media in the pipeline.
In terms of sealing methods:
Soft Seal
The soft-sealing valve features a sealing surface made of flexible materials, such as rubber
or PTFE, which makes it suitable for use with low-pressure and low-temperature fluids.
Hard seal
Hard-sealing valves feature a sealing surface made of hard materials (such as stainless
steel, alloy materials, etc.), making them suitable for use with higher-pressure and high-temperature
fluids.
Here take Taloar manual gate valves as an example. Hard-sealing gate valves have solid wedge plate, bolted bonnet and cast bronze seat, which feature good tightness and long service life. Resilient seated gate valves use EPDM fully wrapped plate, to ensure zero leakage. The shell inside and outside is sprayed with epoxy resin.
In terms of connection methods:
Threaded connection: The valve body has internal or external threads, and a pipeline uses threaded connections.
Flange connection: The body has flange and a pipeline uses a flange connection.
Welded connection: The valve body has a welding bevel, and the pipeline uses welded connections.
Clamp connection: The valve body has a clamp port and a pipeline uses a clamp connection.
Blocking connection: It is designed for use with a pipeline that employs a ferrule connection.
Wafer connection: Valves are attached to two ends of the pipeline via a clamp, forming a direct and secure connection.
Characteristics of Manual Valves
Simple operation: Manual valves don’t need complex equipment. Just manually rotate or use a wrench to finish operation.
Reliable structure: Manual valves have mature design and manufacturing process.
Convenient maintenance: Manual valves have fewer parts, allowing for easy disassembly and cleaning. They are cost-effective for long-term use.
Wide range of application: Manual valves are applicable to a wide range of working conditions.
