1.  How does a suction diffuser work?

The working principle of a water pump diffuser is mainly based on the principles of fluid dynamics. The main function of the diffuser is filtration, followed by diffusion. Diffusion is to evenly distribute the water flow entering the diffuser from the surrounding holes of the filter net to the center, and then input it into the pump through the guide vanes to reduce the impact of water on the pump.

The diffuser is tapered, with a large inlet and a small outlet, and the outlet is connected to the water pump. When the liquid passes through the diffuser, the flow rate will be gradually reduced according to the continuity equation because the cross-sectional area of the channel gradually increases. At the same time, the pressure of the liquid will increase accordingly, realizing the conversion of kinetic energy to pressure energy.

This increase in pressure helps to improve the transport capacity and stability of the liquid in the subsequent pipeline, reduce energy loss and flow noise, and can make the liquid more evenly distributed in the pipeline system, reducing the impact and wear on the pipeline and related equipment.

2.  What are the factors to consider when choosing a suction diffuser?

Water pump parameters

Understand the pump’s flow rate, head, outlet flow rate, and other parameters to ensure that the diffuser can match the pump’s performance.

Piping system requirements

Consider the pipe diameter, material, system pressure requirements and flow distribution needs to determine the size of the diffuser and connection.

Operating medium characteristics

For example, the type of medium (water, oil, chemical solution, etc.), temperature, corrosivity, etc., to select the appropriate diffuser material, such as stainless steel, cast iron, plastic, etc..

Pressure recovery requirements

According to the system requirements for pressure recovery, select the diffuser with appropriate diffusion angle and length to achieve the required pressure boost.

Noise and vibration control

If there are strict requirements on the noise and vibration of the system, select a reasonably designed diffuser that can effectively reduce noise and vibration.

Installation space

Consider the space constraints of the installation location and select a diffuser of appropriate size and shape to ensure smooth installation.

Comprehensive consideration of the above factors can help you choose the right suction diffuser for a particular application.
