1. What factors should be considered when selecting Y strainers?

Fluid characteristics: Know the type of fluid (e.g., water, oil, gas, etc.), viscosity, temperature, and pressure. These factors will affect the choice of strainer material and design.

Filtration accuracy: Determine the required filtration accuracy based on system requirements. The strainer’s pore size or filtration media should be able to effectively remove unwanted particles or impurities from the system.

Flow requirements: Determine the flow requirements of the system to ensure that the strainer selected can handle the flow without excessive pressure loss or flow restriction.

Material selection: Select the suitable strainer material according to the nature of the fluid and the operating environment, such as stainless steel, carbon steel, plastic, etc., to ensure that it has sufficient corrosion resistance and pressure resistance.

End connection : Make sure the end connection of the strainer matches the pipelines, such as threaded, flanged, etc.

Ease of maintenance: Consider the cleaning and maintenance requirements of the strainer. Y-type strainers are usually designed with a structure that is easy to dismantle and clean, but the ease of maintenance may vary among different models and brands.

Installation position: Choose a suitable position for easy installation, operation and maintenance. Y-type strainers are usually installed in a horizontal position in the piping system so that sediments can accumulate at the bottom of the strainer.

2. How do Y strainers work?

Y-type strainer is a common pipeline filtration equipment, and its working principle is relatively simple and effective:

Fluid entry: The Y-type strainer is usually installed in the pipeline system, and the fluid enters the inlet of the strainer from one end of the pipeline.

Diversion: After entering the strainer, the fluid will diverge into two directions and flow along the two branches of the Y-shaped structure.

Filtration process: Inside the Y-strainer, there is a screen or strainer that serves to stop and trap solid particles, impurities or other undesirable substances in the fluid. These solid particles may be brought in due to internal piping deposits, media contamination, or other sources.

Filtration media: Strainers typically use different types of filtration media, such as metal mesh or strainers with specific pore sizes, which can be selected for different filtration accuracy and durability as needed.

Cleaning and maintenance: Over time, the strainer media inside the strainer will gradually accumulate solid particles, so the strainer media needs to be cleaned or replaced regularly to ensure the normal operation and filtration effect of the strainer.

3. What are the advantages of Y-type strainers?

Protect equipment

Y-strainer can effectively intercept the particles, sediments and impurities in the pipeline and prevent these impurities from entering the downstream equipment (such as pumps, valves, heaters, coolers, etc.), thus reducing the wear and tear of the equipment and malfunctioning, and improving the reliability and life of the system.

Reduce maintenance costs

By filtering impurities in the system, the Y-filter reduces equipment failures and downtime, thereby reducing repair and maintenance costs.

Improve system efficiency

Keeping pipes and equipment clean helps maintain efficient system operation, reduce fluid resistance, and keep flow and pressure stable.

Easy to clean and maintain

Y-strainer is usually equipped with removable screen, which can be easily removed for cleaning or replacement, and the maintenance process is simple and quick.

Wide applicability

Y-type strainer can be used for various fluids (e.g. water, oil, gas) and different working conditions, with strong adaptability.

Compact structure

The structure of Y-type strainer is relatively simple and compact. It occupies little space and is suitable for installation in limited space.
